In our previous articles featured in FDN Life Magazine, we introduced you to our FDN Mentor of the Year, the late Jim Rohn. Probably one of the most inspirational life and wealth mentors of our time. We covered lessons 1 – 6, and learned that self-criticism could be one of the most crippling aspects to achieving anything in life, the importance of paying attention to our personal philosophy about life, love, and money. The importance of changing our personal philosophy if it is hindering our evolution and growth. The power of our attitude, and how we need to take action and do the best we can every single day to achieve our dreams, goals and desires.
In this issue we will cover Lesson 7, where we will learn about:
- The fifth piece of the life puzzle;
- Understanding how to get a better lifestyle.
Let’s get right to it:

5 OF THE 5 MAJOR PIECES TO THE LIFE PUZZLE
- #1 – PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY (WHAT WE KNOW)
- #2 – OUR ATTITUDE (WHAT WE FEEL)
- #3 – ACTIVITY (WHAT WE DO)
- #4 – MEASURING RESULTS (WHAT WE ACHIEVE)
- #5 – LIFESTYLE (HOW WELL WE LIVE)
A DEFINITION OF LIFESTYLE
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “Lifestyle is simply learning how to live well.”
RESULTS FOR BETTER LIFESTYLE
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “After applying a better philosophy, attitude, taking action and then getting results, what are results for? To fashion for yourself lifestyle – the good life.”
Lesson Learned: The ultimate challenge is to fashion a lifestyle for yourself by taking your results, money, or equity.
TWO CONCEPTS ABOUT LIFESTYLE TO TAKE NOTE OF:
- IF YOU WISH TO BE WEALTHY, STUDY WEALTH (HOW TO DO WELL)
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “Do you have a superior financial plan?”
Lesson Learned: Study and learn the art of happiness, wealth, success. Study and practice make you rich.
- IF YOU WISH TO BE HAPPY, STUDY HAPPINESS (HOW TO LIVE WELL)
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “I didn’t know happiness was a study. At age 25, my best hope for happiness was just to go through life with my fingers crossed. Hoping that something would make me happy. But my mentor, Mr. Sheoff said: ‘No Mr. Rohn. Happiness is not something you postpone. Happiness is something you DESIGN. Happiness is a study. Happiness is a practice. Happiness is an art. Happiness is not an accident. It’s an art. And anyone that wants it can study it and get it. Only study and practice make you happy.’”
Lesson Learned: Don’t be lazy in learning to be happy. Don’t be lazy to learning how to be wealthy.
CHOOSE THE HIGHER AMOUNT
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “When it comes to learning the art of wealth and living well, learn in simple terms. Mr. Sheoff taught be in simple terms. He used to say: ‘Mr. Rohn, when you are having your shoes shined, and the boy did a great job, and now you have to tip him does two amounts come to mind? One a lower and one a higher amount? You are faced with the question as to if you should give him one quarter or two quarters, what do you do? The answer is, always go with the higher amount and become the higher thinking person. This concept changed my life.’”
Lesson Learned: You can’t believe the extra happiness you can buy with that extra quarter. Money doesn’t make you happy, but it’s the experiences you can buy or give with it, that can.
In this short but powerful lessons, we learned the two rules that applies to creating a better lifestyle for ourselves. Both involves study. Studying the art of wealth, and studying the art of happiness.
