MENTOR NOTES > JIM ROHN

Series: Jim Rohn – FDN Life Mentor of the Year
Part: III

In our previous articles featured in the Jul-Aug and Sept-Oct 2019 issues, we introduced you to our FDN Mentor of the Year, the late Jim Rohn. Probably one of the most inspirational life and wealth mentors of our time. We covered lessons 1 – 4 and learned that self-criticism could be one of the most crippling aspects to achieving anything in life, and the importance of paying attention to our personal philosophy about life, love, and money.

In this issue we will cover Lesson 5, where we will learn about:

  • The crippling effects of inactivity and procrastination.
  • The important question we should ask ourselves in order to transform our lives.
  • The importance of having discipline.

    Let’s get right to it:

LESSON 5

START TIME: 51:20 Min

REQUIREMENTS:

TAKE NOTES
When we write down what we have learned, the act helps us remember, break down, and internalize information. To benefit the most from this lesson, listen to the seminar video provided and take notes as you follow along. Stop the recording whenever necessary.

3 OF THE 5 MAJOR PIECES TO THE LIFE PUZZLE

#1 – PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY (WHAT WE KNOW)
#2 – OUR ATTITUDE (WHAT WE FEEL)
#3 – ACTIVITY (WHAT WE DO)

HOW DO WE TRANSFORM OUR LIVES?
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “In transforming our lives, we don’t start with attitude or inspiration. We start with education. And you might start by educating yourself on where you messed-up. Make a list of the stuff you messed up.”

Lesson Learned: When it comes to change, there is a reluctance among all of us. Most importantly is keeping up with the changes you make and not falling back to default. It’s very true what Mr. Rohn says, ‘when it comes to changing around our lives for the better we need to start with educating ourselves’ on better ways and going inwards into ourselves to investigate which aspects we messed-up.

MOTIVATION DON’T PRODUCE RESULTS
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “Someone might tell you that all you need is to motivate someone. They say, ‘you know just to motivate this guy.’ Probably not . . . If the guy is an idiot and you motivate him, now all you’ve got is a motivated idiot.”

Lesson Learned: Motivation in itself is not a good enough building block to improving our lives.

ACTIVITY (ACTION)

Mr. Jim Rohn says, “The third major piece to the life puzzle is called ‘activity.’ This is the work part, labor, taking action. Activity is the miracle-working piece.”

Lesson Learned: Nothing in our lives can change unless we take action. Activity, taking action, and working towards our goals and dreams is one of the single most important pieces to the life puzzle. Get this one right, and you are well on your way to realizing your wildest dreams.

DO NOT BE NEGLIGENT
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “The pieces to the life puzzle is easy but do not neglect them.”

Lesson Learned: Negligence and procrastination are one of the major reasons we do not achieve our dreams and goals. It’s important to keep our eyes and focus on what we want to achieve in life, and applying the knowledge (education) we have learned.

DISCIPLINES
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “Turning wisdom from your philosophy and inspiration, and the strengthening of attitude, faith and courage, commitment, and all this stuff that comes from attitude . . . If you are willing to take all this stuff (Philosophy and Attitude) and invest it into Activity, you can have a miracle. Anything short of that don’t create a miracle. Wisdom doesn’t perform a miracle. Attitude doesn’t perform a miracle. The only thing that performs a miracle of increase called equity is called: Putting Wisdom (Philosophy) and Attitude into Discipline, into Labor (Action / Activity). And this now can perform a miracle.”

Lesson Learned: If we do not discipline ourselves to take action from what we have learned, and if we do not create an attitude in line with achieving what we desire, we will not achieve anything. In order to ‘get’ anything in life, we need to follow the laws of the universe that applies on Earth, which says that we need to use wisdom and attitude and apply discipline and action.

ACTIVITY CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “Labor (Activity / Action) consists of two parts. 1 = Do what you can. 2 = Do the best that you can. When it comes to ‘1’, you need to make a list.”

JIM ROHNs RECOMMENDED QUESTION TO ASK OURSELF:

  • “What am I not doing that would be easy to do, that could greatly change my health and wealth?”
FDN LIFE MAGAZINE - ISSUE 4 > MENTOR OF THE YEAR – JIM ROHN - Lesson 5

HOW DO YOU GET A MIRACLE GOING FOR YOUR LIFE?
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “Number one, do what you can. Get a list of the stuff you could do, but haven’t done, and start cleaning that up. You can’t start at a better place for change. It will affect your future life, your bank account, everything . . . ”

Lesson Learned: Procrastination and not getting our act together will result in disaster in the future and many regrets. There is no better time than the present to do everything that we can to achieve the dreams and goals that we desire most. Don’t sit around and wait for a miracle, create your own.

NO 2 – DO THE BEST YOU CAN
Mr. Jim Rohn says, “The other key to Action / Activity is doing the best you can. If this is not your philosophy, I’d ask you to amend it. It’s not the economy or the government who is going to determine your success in the next years; it’s going to be your own personal philosophy about action, working hard, activity.”

Lesson Learned: Do you often look back at your day and think: “I didn’t do my best today. I could have done better?” One of the laws of life on Earth is that we have to work for everything we desire. If we don’t apply this very simple philosophy and learn to do the best we can every single day, on every single project we work, we are sowing the seeds of our own disaster that will come bite us in the ass. It’s important to train your body and mind to do the best you can every day
