So, you just quit your full-time career?
Great job! Welcome to the world of the unemployed
I know it’s scary, this uncertain road of not knowing whether or not you made the right decision. Perhaps you are wondering if your plan to become a freelancer, digital nomad, remote or location independent is going to work out.
Though there is reason for concern, pat yourself on the back for taking the brave step into the unknown and quitting the security of your day job. You now form part of an estimated 162-million-strong global community known as the gig economy – people who either work from home or work-travel around the globe.
5 – GETTING HOLD OF THOSE NERVES
It’s normal to feel fearful about the big step you have just taken. Every FDN who is successful today has been where you are right now. Use the fear and uncertainty to your advantage by facing your feelings head on.
Ask yourself:
Understand that fear is a part of life and will be a part of most day-to-day operations once you start working as an FDN. As long as your fear is not life-threatening, you have nothing to lose by taking the next brave step to realizing your dreams.
So, take a deep breath. You have everything under control.

4 – CLEAN OUT & START A NEW CHAPTER
Our physical environment has as much impact on us as the emotional and spiritual parts of our life. If you are going to work from home, consider cleaning out your house and setting up a new area for you to work in, or clean out and set up your old office.
If you intend to become a digital nomad, you can put together a list of what you will need to run your remote business daily from wherever you are in the world. Practice setting up your mobile office at home before hitting the road.
It’s very important that we establish a physical work and living environment that is most conducive to our mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing, especially when working full-time from home. A conducive work environment ensures optimal productivity and reward.

3 – USE YOUR REASON FOR QUITTING TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
You quit your job for a reason. Perhaps it was because you have always dreamed about running your own business and being your own boss, or because you desired more quality time at home. Whatever your reason(s), write these down in bold letters in a notebook, diary or organizer where you can see them clearly every so often.
Example:
I quit my job because:
1) I want to be my own boss.
2) I have always dreamed about starting my own business, and now is the right time.
3) I don’t like commuting to work every day.
4) My manager doesn’t afford me the opportunity to grow and expand my knowledge.
5) I felt bored at work. But if I can have more time at home, I will focus on improving my skills.
And so on . . .
When things get tough, the motivating factors you just wrote down will come in handy to remind you exactly why you don’t ever want to go back to your 9-5 job. Use these to keep you motivated and on track.

2 – DEVELOP A DETERMINED MINDSET
Nothing that is worth it in life comes easy. That said, it’s not impossibly difficult either. Most often, our mindset, personal viewpoints, and perspectives are the only factors keeping us from achieving our goals. Know that you will need to adopt an attitude of determination and pro-activeness to achieve your desires.

POWERFUL TOOLS THAT CAN HELP DEVELOP A DETERMINED MINDSET:
Pro Tip: While cleaning out your house or setting up your office, put on some headphones and listen to a motivational video. Believe me, it makes the cleaning that much more fun.
1 – DON’T WASTE TIME
You might think now is the perfect time to go on vacation or take time off, or that you will start developing your location independent business “later.” That is one of the biggest mistakes beginner FDNs make. Do not waste time! Use the momentum and burst of freedom and energy you are experiencing right now and start working in your business ASAP. Talk to your first client, get the first project done, and start developing your portfolio/website.
The novelty of quitting your job will wear off pretty soon. It’s important to establish a system for yourself and start setting up your business right away.
