Saddle up and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime by taking your location independent work-lifestyle to the next level . . . camping in the great outdoors!
Here is our list of top items to pack if you are going to take on camping or outdoor living as a digital nomad or location independent:
BACKPACK & DAYPACK
Whether traveling for two weeks or up to two years, a quality backpack and smaller daypack go a long way. There are various options available on the market to fit your DN needs:
Kelty Women's Redwing 40 Backpack
Good sized backpack for ladies. Super comfortable with shoulder and waist straps, a ventilation panel on the back, and dual laptop/hydration sleeve.
Gregory Mountain - Baltoro 65 Liter Men's Backpack
Gentleman, keep your smartphones and digital devices safe in this weather-resistant backpack with TPU-coating and sealed hip belt compartment.
LAPTOP STAND + EXTERNAL KEYBOARD & MOUSE (WIRELESS)
Working on your laptop every day is part of life for DNs and location independents. Make life more comfortable with a laptop stand that you can use anywhere, especially when camping where no table and chair is available. An external, wireless, and portable keyboard and mouse is also advised. Keep things small and portable, though, and ensure to take along a waterproof bag to protect everything when it rains.
UNIVERSAL TRAVEL SURGE PROTECTOR
Always, always take a universal plug with you on your travels around the world. Even better if it has in-built surge protection. Find some options below to choose from:
Pac2Go Universal Travel Adapter with Quad USB + USB-C Charger - All-in-One Surge/Spike Protected Electrical Plug
A more compact option with the added bonus of USB ports and USB charging functionality.
Universal Travel Plug Power Adapter with Built-in Surge Protector (150 Countries)
Perfect for single travelers who need a smaller, universal plug option with surge protection. It works in 150 countries!
POWERADD International Travel Power Strip Surge Protector Outlet 4
This one is great for couples who work and travel together since it has four outlets compared to only one.
QUALITY WALKING SHOES & SOCKS
Few things are as uncomfortable as blisters and foot sores. Keep your feet fit, fresh and healthy with the proper footwear.
Clorts Waterproof Men's Hiking Boots / Lightweight Work Shoes
(Backpacking, Trekking & Trails)
Women's Drifter Waterproof Shoes
(Backpacking, Trekking & Trails)
Merino Wool Hiking Socks (Men & Woman)
(Backpacking, Trekking & Trails)
COMPACT WATERPROOF TENT
A tent goes a long way during days out camping; especially if you intend to do it for an extended period of time during your location independent adventures.
Sportneer Camping Tent
(2-3 Person & Automatic Instant Pop Up Waterproof Tent)
Great tent for couples or partners working and traveling together. Fits two and is waterproof.
FIRST AID KIT
A first aid kit is a non-negotiable when traveling. Choose between a small, basic first aid kit or upgrade to a more comprehensive kit when hiking and camping for long periods.
STATIONARY
Superglue, masking tape, pen, pencil, rubber, notebook, and a swiss-army knife are just some of the basic stationary items to consider traveling with. Pack items that have multi-purpose benefits, such as super glue to fix stuff that break, or a swiss army knife with multi-purpose tools.

I do prefer a tent, especially since you never know. I also always take my portable laptop stand. It makes it easier to work while travelling.
